The World Needs More Whimsy Grand Tour.

On April 11th 2018 the Big Banana Car set off from Santa Monica in California on, what is being called, The World Needs More Whimsy Grand Tour.

Almost straight away it was in a crash!

I stopped for a red light on Santa Monica boulevard, right across from the iconic Beverly ‌Hills police station, the one featured in the movie Beverly Hills Cop, but the car behind didn’t stop. There was no screeching of tyres. The car just drove into the back of the Big Banana Car!

His car unfortunately received severe front end damage.20180411_132932

If you look closely at the right side of the trailer hitch on the back of the banana car (yes the banana car has a trailer hitch) you can see a series of faint marks that were not there before.

Ron Kutt and I fabricated the rear bumper and its strength is due, in no small measure, to Rons welding skills.

(Just look at that wonderful shadow of a palm tree. Ah California how I love you so.)

It was amazing how quickly the police were on the scene. They must have been looking out the police station window and just leapt up and ran out the door.

No one was hurt and it was clearly the fault of the other driver so I was free to continue on my way.

Nothing could dampen my spirits on that sunny California afternoon, not even a minor “fender bender” as I continued onward knowing that the great American highway and a year of adventure lay ahead.

Big Banana Car and the gishwhes Scavenger Hunt

We were recently contacted by someone with a very strange request.
She asked if we would take the Big Banana car to a drive in cinema where two of her friends could be photographed “necking”.
It turns out that she is part of gishwes (the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen) and that is one of the items needed. It is item number 117 and worth 84 points!

So tonight (Friday 7th of August) at The Sunset Drive-In in Hartford MI the Big Banana Car will be joining team members of gishwhes.
How could we refuse this request.
If you are looking for something fun to do tonight at sunset come out to The Sunset Drive-in on Red Arrow Hwy just west of Hartford MI and join the fun.
Hope to see there.
